Wi Fi Radio Investors pushed Provident Bank Corp.'s shares up 18 cents, or 1.53%, to $11.92 at the close Friday in anticipation of its closing the Warwick Community Bancorp, Inc. acquisition.

If there ever was a bank on the prowl for strategic growth its Provident. The Warwick deal only cost shareholders $147.2 million; $72 million in cash and 6, 257, 892 shares. Yet it moved the bank into a strategic position in two states and that's where Provident chose wisely in buying Warwick Community Bancorp, bringing its total to 36 branches in New York and New Jersey.The bank said that as a result of the acquisition its assets have grown to $2.5 billion.
